The Department accepts approximately 6-8 PhD students each year, funded from various sources including UK Research Councils, medical charities, industry and overseas bodies. Some studentships are awarded after open competition within inter-departmental programmes while others are allocated for specific projects. Some students are self-funded.

General Enquiries

Enquiries may be made at any time but most applications are considered during the period of November to February for projects to commence the following October.  There are normally specific funding deadlines (in January or February). Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact individual Principal Investigators to discuss potential projects and availability of studentships before making a formal application.
